Invisibility By: Cheryl Benton
When I'm with you it's like I'm in a dream
Where things are real, but then they're not.
I see you, but you don'treally see me.
Everything's known about you, and I, not a lot
It is like I'm invisible, but you're aware.
You always know that I'm around,
But about knowing more, you don't care.
You look at me and my eyes fall to the ground,
I feel ashamed to have your fleeting peek,
To have you piercing my heart with your gaze.
The indescribable bittersweet pain reeks
With the hope of togetherness that pays.
It is sheer optimism that keeps me hanging on.
Everyday, I look forward to another chance.
A chance to shine and with you, make a bond.
One day that you will notice me, perchance,
And just give me one of your charming grins,
Which I will return, as if it's because of a win.
This poem represents The Schwa Was Here very well. The Schwa is functionally invisible to most everyone. He blends in everywhere and isn't noticed at all, although he tries very hard to stand out. This relates to the poem. This poem explains someone being invisible to another person. They are invisible, "I see you, but you don't really see me".
