Throughout the book, The Schwa does a series of experiments testing The Schwa Effect. According to Antsy, the Schwa Effect is a condition in which the Schwa is unnoticed by almost everyone. He blends in with his surroundings, almost like a chameleon. For example, in one experiment the Schwa goes into the boys bathroom of their school dressed in a cat costume and a bright orange sombrero. He stands in the corner singing "God Bless America" very loudly. Meanwhile, Antsy stands outside the door asking anyone who comes out if they'd seen anything unusual while they were in there. Fourteen out of fifteen kids said there was someone acting weird in the bathroom, but very few could describe the boy, the costumes, or the song.
